AdbKickuser manual

It turns wireless ADB on at every ignition. For the Sealion 7 head unit. If you use Beetle Launcher this is already built in — you do not need this app as well.

Unofficial. Not affiliated with the vehicle manufacturer. It only taps wireless ADB for you at ignition. It does not modify the car.

Installing

This car blocks installs from a file manager. Third-party APKs cannot be installed that way. Install over wireless ADB from a phone.

Use a phone

Put your phone on the same Wi-Fi as the car, connect to wireless ADB with one of these apps and install the APK straight from it. No computer, no cable. Turn wireless ADB on once from the engineer screen so the phone can attach.

Bugjaeger is Android only. On iPhone use atvTools.

Get the APK from Standalone apps on the home page. If it is already installed, install over the old one.

→ Get AdbKick

You do not need this app if you use Beetle Launcher. The same work is built into the launcher. The launcher does not call a copy you already installed.

First time

Open the app and do this once. After a reinstall, start from the beginning.

③ grants the permission to itself over the wireless ADB it just opened. You do not need to type a command. Only if that fails, run this once from the phone:

adb shell pm grant com.beetle.adbkick android.permission.WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS
adb shell appops set com.beetle.adbkick WRITE_SETTINGS allow

The second line is appops, not pm grant. Prefixing android.permission. makes it fail.

What happens at ignition

If wireless ADB is already open, it does nothing. If it is off, it runs the steps below.

  1. If accessibility dropped off the list, it puts itself back. It also checks every 15 minutes.
  2. If the screen is landscape, it turns portrait just long enough to reach the button, then restores the saved landscape. Rotation is not left locked.
  3. It opens the engineer screen and taps wireless ADB. If that path is blocked, it taps only the title on the version-management screen.
  4. If a factory-reset confirm dialog appears, it does not tap it. It goes Back.

If it misses the first try just after boot, it retries at 30 seconds, 2 minutes, 5 minutes and 10 minutes. It stops as soon as ADB is open.

The screen

One screen. Status on top, buttons in the middle, log at the bottom. When every row is green, setup is done.

AdbKick 2.96: status rows, numbered buttons, and a short log.
AdbKick 2.96 — fix red rows first

Status rows

Wireless ADB
Whether port 5555 is open now. If closed, tap ②.
Accessibility
On the list and connected. If off, tap ①.
Cold-boot self-repair
Whether it can put accessibility back after a start. If not, tap ③.
Periodic re-arm
The 15-minute check. Opening the app sets it.
Notification anchor
A second lifeline if accessibility drops. It does not read notifications. ③ registers it.
Battery-optimisation exemption
Without it the parked-car check can sleep for hours. ③ sets this too.
Self-grant
Progress of ③. It waits for Always allow, then shows done or failed.
Stay awake
Off / keep CPU / 30-minute measure. The app can only stop the CPU sleeping. It cannot stop the car cutting power to the head unit.
Update
④ is release, ⑤ is test. The button you tap moves you onto that channel’s latest. Tapping ④ while on test takes you back to release.

Buttons

④ Release · ⑤ Test
First tap checks. If there is a build, the same button becomes Install. The next tap downloads and installs over wireless ADB. If that fails, put the homepage APK on from the phone. A file manager will not work.
Stay awake
Each tap cycles off → keep CPU → 30-minute measure. Default is off. Measure logs whether it actually slept, then turns itself off.
⑦ Rotation test
Turns portrait, then restores after 6 seconds. This is only the ignition rotation, on its own. It does not stay locked.
Refresh / copy log
Refreshes status and copies the recent log to the clipboard.
Send log to server
You do not have to copy and paste from the car. It goes to the same server as the launcher, in logs/adbkick. The device tag is eight random characters. No personal data.

Opening the app also checks for an update once a day and may install it quietly. It will not install if wireless ADB is off.

When it does not work

It will not install from a file manager

This car blocks third-party installs. Put the phone on the same Wi-Fi as the car, then install the APK from the download page with atvTools (iPhone) or Bugjaeger (Android) over wireless ADB.

Wireless ADB does not open after ignition

See whether Accessibility or Cold-boot self-repair is red. ① then ③. Opening the app tries a repair immediately.

① says no app can handle this

This head unit has no accessibility settings screen. From 2.7, ① registers the service itself. Use the current build.

Accessibility is off when you start in the evening

The parked-car check slept. Use ③ so battery optimisation is off. For now, opening the app brings it back at once.

The screen stays in portrait

Portrait only while it taps. If it stays, open the app — every open clears a leftover rotation. ⑦ is a 6-second test.

It will not update

In-app install needs wireless ADB open. If that fails, put the homepage APK on from the phone. A file manager will not work.

The log mentions a factory-reset dialog

The safety catch fired. It did not confirm, and it did not reset. Send the log to the server.

Anything else

Send log to server so you do not have to copy from the car. Say which button you tapped and what you saw. → Report a bug

If you see something this document does not mention, that is worth reporting too. If the app has changed and this has not, tell us.
